Nightmare Killers 2 Haunted House (Review)

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

As you enter Killers 2: A Nightmare Haunted House, a man tells you about the horrors of unsolved murders and gruesome murders of NYC and around the country. It's pretty terrifying to know serial killers are out there, somewhere waiting, hunting. If this doesn't unnerve you a bit, maybe a walking Jeffrey Dahmer lookalike will. The notorious reputation gained from last year's haunted house Tim Haskell's sequel is actually more terrifying and spectacularly awesome than the previous version. The rooms move like clockwork, the performances are top notch and set up jump scares that will have you jumping out of your shoes and an ending that will make you rethink walking down an infamous street.

Nightmare Killers 2 is a perfect clash of documentary meets haunted house terror. You may not know who each of these infamous serial killers are, but they all will be imprinted in your mind once you leave. If there is one New York City haunted house you and some friends want to get your scare on, Killers 2 is it. It has all the elements of the traditional room scares, the sets that go from tight spaces to creepy uncomforableness and just the right amount of scares from being the first person in to the last person out.

Wikipedia the Killers

Like last year, I attended Killers 2 with the lovely "L" from Downtown Traveler. It seems we are both adept at being both jaded upon all haunted houses these days with the thing scaring us the most is not being able to know where to go next.  Upon entering the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center, you'll be greeted at the acid trip paintings of some of history's notorious serial killers with a some notes on their gruesome murders and crimes. I highly suggest you read these blurbs so you know who you'll be meeting once you go in. This year also has a Killers Act Stage where a variety of performers (ranging from some piano playing to spoken word when I was there) perform for the people waiting on lines. It's something to watch instead of playing Candy Crush on your phone.

Molested by Uncle John

In keeping with what worked, Nightmare brings back the option of being touched by the actors. If you choose to do so some double XX blood splatter will be marked on your forehead. I of course chose this option because who doesn't liked getting touched by depraved psychopaths? Patrons will go in groups of 6 or so and it actually is the perfect amount to get the most of each room. Groups work best as you can laugh at others being scared shitless.

I won't spoil the rooms but this years version seems to up the ante. Actors will get up close and personal, yell out instructions and retort with their own brand of devlish humor if you disobey. You'll get a variety of rooms, with set designs that you may remember and others that are intricately detailed with 70s and 80s nostalgia. And with these elaborate sets are the infamous killers, telling their wicked tales of murder and dementia. Last years version had the creme de la creme, this years we get some familiars and a few that you probably never heard of (I didn't). Harrison Graham and Aileen Wournos might have you Googling but Charles Manson and Richard Ramirez will have you going oh oh. A few fictional killers will make appearances as well and were quite a surprise.

Each room tells a tale and the actors do a great job of giving you some Wikipedia about these maniacs before the unsuspecting participants get BOOed! It's in your interest to immerse yourself in each room and get an idea of the story each rooms pulls off. If you partake earlier in the season, you'll have at least a minute and a half in each room and the haunt paces it nicely making sure you get to spend quality time with each killer. You'll be asked to perform some actions and marked foreheads will get extra attention. I was again molested by John Wayne Gacy (goddamit I hate clowns) as I made a new friend in his basement. Nightmare seems to moving over into that edge of getting under your skin with the touching and even my sarcasm directed to the actors didn't break their concentration. Uncle John promised me candy. I didn't get any.

Later on "L" got abducted by Richard Ramirez and I was called an "asshole" by a certain American Slasher. The actors truly make it work and even go into the surreal with Wuornos room being very. It would seem you can get 20-30 minutes out of the whole experience though I found myself trudging into each room head on and allowing myself to get up close and personal.

WTF is for WHAT THE FUCKITY FUCK?

Nightmare had a few rooms that seemed anti climactic. An outside adventure that had Dexter last year was a bit more subdued. There was some cushioned narrow corridors and a swamp that had me mesmerized by the design but also as scared as watching Twilight. However, the ending of a certain Harrison Graham was completely bonkers and I had remnants my encounter with a certain "monster" all over my shirt. That to me should have been the ending but instead we get a post credits scene that made it anti climactic. But overall, that last encounter proved priceless to myself and it was something I would not forget.

With Halloween fast approaching, each room may not get your full attention as crowds and actors will speed read their lines and scare faster. I think if you go before Halloween or after, you'll get the full effect of what Nightmare Killers 2 has to offer.

Killers 2 is one of those haunted house sequels that actually outdoes its predecessor. The direction, the pace, the actors, the killers and the overall experience is one that seems fine tuned and in flow. New York City is a scary place in itself sometimes but even the hardcore jaded New Yorker needs to go to a place that creates a scare machine to test his limits.

Why not attempt to go through a maze of serial killers? If you pass that test, it's like getting a gold star and some candy.

Just don't get molested by Uncle John.

Blu-ray Review: HALLOWEEN 35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 27 September 2013 0 komentar

HALLOWEEN:  35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION
Directed by:
Distributed by:  Anchor Bay Home Entertainment

I'm sure everyone that reads this blog has seen John Carpenter's classic horror masterpiece, HALLOWEEN.  If you are a true fan of horror, you have seen this film numerous times and it is required viewing every October!  If you have never seen this film, do so asap.  This is as close to a perfect horror movie as you can get.   For those not familiar with the film, here is a description from the Anchor Bay website:

Halloween stars Jamie Lee Curtis (A Fish Called Wanda, True Lies) in her debut role. Anyone who’s ever watched a horror film in the last 35 years knows the story of Michael Myers, who as a child, butchered his sister with a kitchen knife. Committed to a mental institution and watched over by Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance, Halloween II, IV & V, Fantastic Voyage), he engineers his escape 15 years later, returning to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois on Halloween night to terrorize anyone who gets in his way, including babysitter Laurie Strode (Curtis). Co-starring P.J. Soles (Carrie, Stripes, Rock ‘n Roll High School), Kyle Richards (The Watcher in the Woods, Eaten Alive), Nancy Loomis (Carpenter’s Assault On Precinct 13, The Fog), Charles Cyphers (Escape From New York, The Fog) and Brian Andrews (The Great Santini, Three O’Clock High), Halloween also cemented the careers of many behind the camera including Carpenter, Cundey, producer Debra Hill and film editor/production designer Tommy Lee Wallace (Halloween III: Season of the Witch, “It”).

I don't feel the need to review the actual movie.  You have probably all seen it, and like I said before, it is about as close to the perfect horror film as you can get.  So, I'm gonna tell you all  about the other stuff you get with this new edition. Now I realize you probably already own this film, either on DVD or the earlier Blu-ray release, but you will definitely want to pick up this new Blu-ray edition.  In addition to the new HD transfer of the film, this set contains a very cool built in booklet full of info and behind the scenes pics from the film.  This new Blu-ray edition also contains some great special features including a new commentary with John Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis and two very cool documentaries.  One is new doc called, THE NIGHT SHE CAME HOME, about a rare horror convention appearance Jamie Lee Curtis did back in 2012 to raise money for charity.  Jamie Lee Curtis does not do many appearances at all when it comes to horror conventions, so this was a lot of fun to see.
The other great documentary is called, ON LOCATION:  25 YEARS LATER which was previously available on past DVD and Blu-ray releases. It is a cool look at the filming locations and how they look today compared to back I the late 70's when the film was shot.

If you have not seen this film, this is the version you will want to get for sure.  The picture looks amazing on this new HD transfer.  The HALLOWEEN: 35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION Blu-ray is available now from Anchor Bay Home Entertainment!

The Paris Catacombs are AWESOME, the horror movie is SHIT

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 26 September 2013 0 komentar

So I vaguely remember seeing this Catacombs movie on Showtime late at night a few years back. I never thought anything about it but I figured I'd watch because I had a crush on  Shannyn Sossamon and I mean it had fuckin PINK in it. Honestly, I couldn't tell you if it was scary or hell what ending was it. It was pretty shitty.

All I remember is that there should have been no way kids would be able to throw a rave in the fuckin Paris, France Catacombs. I mean this shit is holy and sacred.

How could this go un-fuckin-detected?

So here is your brief history lesson of the Paris Catacombs via a Lions Gate trailer.

Got all that?

Well on my recent Europalooza, I was able to go to the Catacombs and see first hand this marvel of history. It's true that Paris ran out out of places to bury their dead and it seems millions of bodies and bones ended up here. As I couldn't read French I'm not too familair with the history but look it's a Wikipedia article!

But I must say being in there is spooky as fuckin hell. I waited about an hour and a half to get in because you know decorated bones and being underneath Paris is a pure tourist attraction. Once in, you descend a circular staircase that seems to go on and on.

Once down, tight narrow passages are dimly lit and your are actually walking underneath the city streets of Paris. It's pretty tight and if you're claustrophobic you're gonna have a bad time.

Most of the first few passages are just filled with piles of rocks. Probably tunnels to dig into the actually cemataries. Then shit gets real.

Holy shit does it get real. No flash photography is allowed but it's a pure scene straight out of a horror movie. First up some odd looking stone castle. I like to think this was created by some bored Frenchman who liked hanging out in tunnels.

And then we get to the good stuff. Skulls, bones and more skulls arranged in the most gothic way possible. Seems like the living like playing with the dead in the 1700s.

Oh and its even crazier. Bones piled 6-8 feet high and in the middle are more skulls. God bless these poor souls. You weren't allowed to touch the bones as scary men with flashlights would yell at you in French if you did.

There were endless rooms with skulls and bones arranged in the most disturbing of ways. The fact that you were in a crypt should have made everybody feel uneasy. But alas, this tourist hub had a baby in a stroller, annoying Americans and everybody (including myself) gawking at the skulls and taking pictures with iPhones and cameras.

A part of me wanted to get my rave on.

And on second thought...I wouldn't want to be on Mollies while I was down here. And we conclude with this wall of skulls.

Overall on my one day in Paris, I visited some badass catacombs. My only other experience seeing catacombs was when Indiana Jones found the knight's tomb in Venice Italy in The Last Crusade. I don't know what I was thinking when I headed down there but I knew it would be a helluva sight.

Surely a horror movie could be made about being stuck underneath Paris, in dark Catacombs with unseen forces trying to kill you. But one does not need to make a movie such as this. Seeing real life places that may have been on a National Geographic channel is pretty awesome. I highly recommend it if you find yourself in Paris. Getting out was quite an ordeal in itself. Once you're done hanging out with the dead, you have to walk up another circular staircase that got me winded and dizzy. Truly this is where we Americans fail. Exercise is not our pastime.

You end up  on the other side of Paris and we were a bit lost when we got out. Though you'd think we'd have exited through the gift shop, though this time it was right across the street from us.

The Paris Catacombs are simply spooky as they are mesmerizing. No horror movie could ever get it right. Visit them if you ever get a chance. Just please don't watch the movie.

Motorcyle madness!!

Posted by Unknown Minggu, 22 September 2013 0 komentar

This weekend in my town of Fayetteville, Arkansas, we had the annual Bikes, Blues, & BBQ Motorcycle rally.  It has really grown in recent years and has recently become the 2nd biggest Motorcycle rally in the U.S., right behind Sturgis!  While cruising around the rally this weekend, I started wondering about horror movies (as I always do) and thinking that I don't recall ever seeing a horror movie about a killer motorcycle.  There has been a horror film about every other type of vehicle including cars (CHRISTINE), trucks (MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE), and even bulldozers (KILLDOZER).  I can't ever recall seeing a horror movie about a killer Motorcycle, though.
With a quick Google search, I found there is at least one killer Motorcycle film called, I BOUGHT A VAMPIRE MOTORCYCLE from 1990.   Seems like I remember that title, but I know I have never seen this film. Here is the plot of the film from imdb.com:

When a motorbike gang kills an occultist, the evil spirit he was summoning inhabits a damaged bike. The bike is then bought and restored, but reveals its true nature when it tries to exact vengeance on the gang, and anyone else who gets in its way.

Does anyone know of any other killer motorcycle movies?  Has anyone seen I BOUGHT A VAMPIRE MOTORCYCLE?  Leave a comment and let me know!

Play the AMERICAN HORROR STORY web game!

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 19 September 2013 0 komentar

If you are not a fan of AMERICAN HORROR STORY, you should be.  The first season was amazing, it was honestly one of my favorite shows on TV.  I didn't get a chance to watch much of the 2nd season, called AMERICAN HORROR STORY:  ASYLUM, but I plan to change that when AMERICAN HORROR STORY:  ASYLUM - THE COMPLETE SECOND comes out on DVD on October 8th from 20th Century Fox home entertainment.
In anticipation of the DVD/Blu-ray release, a fun web based game has been created where the player tries to escape the Asylum by choosing a certain sequence of doors!  The game is pretty fun, so check it out and then check out AMERICAN HORROR STORY:  ASYLUM on DVD and Blu-ray next month!

Blu-ray Review: THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO'S POND

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 18 September 2013 0 komentar

THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO'S POND
Directed by
Distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment

It feels like it's been a while since my last film review!  With the packing, and moving, and then unpacking, and then the death of my old computer, I guess it has been a while since my last review post.  Well, I am happy to say I am starting back up with a good one!   The film is THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO'S POND.  Here is the basic plot of the film from the Anchor Bay website:

During a Turkish archaeological dig early last century, an ancient board game said to have entertained demons was unearthed. Now nearly 90 years later, a group of vacationing friends – including a cynic (Danielle Harris of HALLOWEEN), a rich jerk (James Duval DONNIEof  DARKO), a slutty starlet (Mircea Monroe of Hart Of Dixie”), a jock (Nick Menell of FRIDAY THE 13TH) and prudish twin sisters (Electra & Elise Avellan of GRINDHOUSE) – discover the game hidden in an old house on a remote Maine island. And with a roll of the dice, their darkest secrets will unleash all the greed, jealously and lusts of Hell itself. Richard Tyson (BLACK HAWK DOWN) and Robert Patrick (TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY) co-star in this gory shocker that Horror.com calls “good olfashioned horror movie fun!”

This was a very fun film, but I do have to admit it is slow at times.  Stick with it though, because the ending is pretty brutal and contains a very cool plot twist.  The acting is mediocre, although Danielle Harris does a great job as always, and there is just something about the Avellan twins that I love, so they are always fun to watch.
The effects in this film are very good, and I am happy to report there is quite a bit of blood and gore in this movie, including an awesome chainsaw scene at the end!
Check this one out if you get the chance.  THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO'S POND is available now on DVD and Blu-ray and includes an Alternate Opening  as the only special feature.

Check out the trailer for ZOMBIE HUNTER starring Danny Trejo

Posted by Unknown Minggu, 08 September 2013 0 komentar

Have you heard about the latest film starring Danny Trejo called ZOMBIE HUNTER? I had heard about it a while back, but then sort of forgot about it until tonight.  I was browsing around on YouTube and came across the trailer.  Here is the basic plot of the film courtesy of the film's imdb page:

Zombie Hunter is set in a post-apocalyptic Zombie wasteland caused by the mysterious street drug "Natas". We follow one man who has nothing left other than a beat up Camaro and a trunk full of guns and booze. He runs down Flesh Eaters, hunting for sport and redemption, while also running from his past. After crashing into a small group of survivors, who are running low on resources, he decides to lend a hand. But a surprise attack by the Flesh Eaters forces them on the run and puts the Hunter's skills to the test.

Based on the trailer, this film looks like it could be lots of fun!  The film was written and directed by first time director K. King, and will be released on DVD on October 8th of this year.  I can't wait to check this one out!

Bring on the Elements! Blackout Haunted House Opening Night 9/7/13

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 07 September 2013 0 komentar

It's a bit odd to go to a haunted house (or interactive horror theater in this case) in the first week of September but the day has come. Blackout Haunted House Opening Preview night is today and guess who's first on line?

Yup, clearly jaded viewers I got too excited about this.

It's been a little weird to get into the haunted house hype but while I visited Myrtle Beach, SC a few weeks back I did go to these year round haunted houses: Ripley's Haunted Adventures and Nightmare Haunted House (not to be confused with Nightmare NYC)

Mind you visiting a haunted house in the summer is a little off as it's barely occupied and the haunt usually gives 40%. But it was a thrill to haunt up in August.

So before I write my review of this years Blackout Elements, we'll be giving first impression thoughts (without spoilers or a walkthrough) tonight and tomorrow.

If you want to follow along tonight, follow me on Twitter and on Facebook. I will probably go the Twitter route as pics and possibly Vine videos might be posted.

Who knows what will happen tonight?

Tickets are now on sale for NYC and LA. Check out the trailer below.

Catching up: YOU'RE NEXT

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 06 September 2013 0 komentar

I am trying to catch up on some stuff that I missed out on while I was on a break from blogging.  One of those things is a film called, YOU'RE NEXT.  I am sure most all of you have heard about it and have probably seen it already since it is in theaters now.  I have been so busy with the new house, I have not had time to see it yet.  In fact, I hadn't even seen the trailer for it until I watched it tonight!  It looks really good, so I will hopefully be checking it out soon.
For those of you unfamiliar with the film, here is a brief plot summary from the film's imdb.com page:

When the Davison family comes under attack during their wedding anniversary getaway, the gang of mysterious killers soon learns that one of victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.

I have heard some mixed reviews from a few of my friends that have seen this film.  If you have seen it, please leave a comment below and let me know what you thought of the film.

Yes, you read that right.  GHOST TITS.  Sorry, I know it's a little crude, but this was just too funny not to share!   GHOST TITS is a hilarious spoof on the modern horror film.   The trailer tells the story of a man who thought he had everything, until the day the one thing (or two I guess) he cherished most vanished!   Ha!  This is good stuff!  Check out the trailer and leave a comment and let me know what you think!

I'm baaaack!!

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 04 September 2013 0 komentar

Ok, I am back up and running!  I went out to my local Best Buy store tonight and got a new computer, so the 4H blog is back in business!  I apologize for my longer than expected delay!  I appreciate your patience and hope you haven't forgot about my little place on the web!

So, I just got the computer up and running and I am super tired, so I am headed to bed.  But tomorrow night I will be back with regular daily (or as close to it as possible) posts.

In fact, since you all have been so patient, and since I haven't done one in a while, why don't I host a FREE DVD giveaway!!  I think I will post that in the next few days.  I need to go through my prize stash and see what all I have.  I will come up with something good for you and announce the giveaway in the next few days!  So stay tuned!

Thanks!

Zombie Hayes
